Private Gong Baths
The gong offers a different kind of space — a chance to slow down, step away from the noise of everyday life and simply be. There’s nothing you need to achieve or know how to do. You can lie back, listen and allow yourself to experience the sound in whatever way feels right for you.
A private gong session can be a beautiful opportunity to rest, settle and reconnect with yourself. The experience can be deeply relaxing, but it can also bring moments of reflection, emotion, curiosity or simply stillness. Everyone experiences the gongs differently, and there’s no right or wrong way to receive them.
Whether you’re looking for some dedicated time for yourself or would like to share the experience with a small group, each session is created with care and shaped around the people in the room. My intention is to offer a warm, grounded space where you can let go of having to do, fix or figure anything out for a while.
Your private session
I offer 1:1 gong sessions and private sessions for small groups of friends, family, colleagues or other gatherings.
1:1 sessions can take place in my home treatment room near Arundel, West Sussex, or I can come to you.
Small group sessions can take place in your home, Airbnb, workplace or another suitable space. If I’m travelling to you, I’ll bring the gongs and equipment needed for the session. You’ll just need to bring whatever would make you comfortable to rest and build your nest and to make sure there is a suitable, comfortable space where everyone can settle for the duration of the session.
Sessions are usually around 75 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on your group and what you’re planning.
You might choose a private gong session as:
a way to mark a special occasion or gathering
a wellbeing experience with friends or family
something different to include in a retreat or weekend away
a chance for a team to pause and reset together
simply an opportunity to spend some unhurried time together
What to expect
I’ll take some time to welcome everyone and explain what to expect before we begin. Once everyone is comfortable, I’ll guide you into the gong session, leaving plenty of space for you to simply listen and experience the sound in your own way.
You can enjoy the session either lying down or sitting. If lying down, you’ll need something comfortable to lie on, such as a bed, yoga mat or camping mat. You’ll be on the floor for around an hour, so comfort is important. Some people even prefer an airbed for this reason. If you would prefer to sit, this is also suitable - whatever would make you comfortable.
There’s no particular outcome you need to aim for. You might find yourself deeply relaxed, notice your thoughts becoming quieter, drift somewhere between wakefulness and sleep, or simply enjoy having an hour where nobody needs anything from you.
At the end, there’s time to gently come back into the room and, if you’d like to, share a cup of tea or a few thoughts about the experience.
Please let me know when booking if anyone in your group needs further consideration or adjustments to enable them to fully participate. Your comfort is important to me.
Important information about participating
Gong sessions are generally considered safe for most people, regardless of age or fitness level. However, there are some circumstances where additional consideration is needed.
If any of the following apply to you or someone in your group, please get in touch before booking. We can talk through whether a gong session is appropriate and whether any adjustments may help you to participate comfortably.
Mental health conditions
People with severe mental health conditions, such as paranoid schizophrenia, severe personality disorder or psychosis, should not participate in gong sessions. If you have PTSD or trauma that may need to be considered, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss whether a gong session is appropriate and whether any further support or adjustments may be needed.
Pregnancy
Individuals who are pregnant in the first trimester should not participate in gong sessions. Caution should also be taken during other trimesters, as studies have not been undertaken on pregnant women. If you are pregnant and would like to participate, please talk with a healthcare professional to make sure a gong session is a safe option for you, and let me know of any considerations that may need to be taken into account.
Epilepsy or seizures
People with epilepsy or a history of seizures should not participate in gong sessions.
Hearing impairments and tinnitus
People with hearing impairments may still be able to participate in a gong session, but the experience may not be comfortable. Caution should also be taken if you have tinnitus. Sitting further away from the gongs and wearing ear plugs may allow you to experience the vibrations while reducing the intensity of the sound. It is advised that hearing aids are removed during the session, as the higher-pitched tones can interfere with them. If you have any concerns about your hearing or tinnitus, please discuss this with a healthcare professional before participating.
Sensitivity to sound
People who are particularly sensitive to sound, including individuals with Ménière’s disease, may experience discomfort or agitation during a gong session. Caution is advised. Please talk with a healthcare professional to make sure a gong session is a safe option for you and let me know of any considerations that may need to be taken into account.
Metal implants and medical devices
Caution should be taken by people with metal devices or implants in their body, such as a pacemaker, coronary shunt, artificial heart valves, metal pins or staples, as discomfort may be experienced. It is recommended that you are a minimum of 12 weeks post-surgery before participating. If you are concerned or unsure whether a gong session is appropriate for you, please seek medical advice beforehand.
Listening to your body
Ultimately, you know your body best. If you have an underlying health condition or any concerns about whether a gong session is right for you, please speak with your healthcare provider before participating.
You’re also welcome to contact me before booking if you’d like to talk through any particular considerations. My aim is to make the experience as comfortable and accessible as possible, while ensuring that gong sessions are appropriate for those taking part. You can find further information in my Gong Bath FAQs.
